About The Metuchen Preschool
The Metuchen Preschool is a non-denominational, progressive, play-based, non-profit preschool serving families with children ages two and a half through five for preschool. We also offer a Kindergarten Wrap program for students attending half-day kindergarten at Moss School. The Metuchen Preschool welcomes all students from Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, South Plainfield, Piscataway, and other surrounding towns. The Metuchen Preschool is located at 250 Grove Avenue, Metuchen, NJ. The entrance is located in the back of the Neve Shalom building.
The Metuchen Preschool is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (CCC121612) and admits students of any race, color and national or ethnic origin.
The Metuchen Preschool offers a nurturing environment focusing on the social and academic development of each student utilizing a play-based curriculum. Our school fosters cooperative play, sharing, understanding, and respect for each other while focusing on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child. We celebrate each child’s individuality and are dedicated to teaching children to become confident learners, passionate explorers, and discerning risk-takers.
All of our classes are single-grade for optimal learning and social development. Students are placed in class by age, and are kept together with their class for the entire school year. Movement to the next grade occurs in September.
Units of study at The Metuchen Preschool are both teacher and student directed. The units of study include: All About Me, Apples, Pumpkins, Trees & Leaves, Arctic Animals, Hibernation, Holidays, Butterflies and Ladybugs, Flowers, Community Helpers, Space, Transportation, and more! Letter and number recognition/writing, art, music, science, math, yoga, circle time, and dramatic play are part of the daily curriculum.
The students participate in daily gross motor activities in our large indoor gym, and outdoors on the playground.
All preschool classes at The Metuchen Preschool start at 9:00 daily, with an optional 8:00 drop-off.
Preschool Three, Preschool Four and Kindergarten Wrap students have the option of staying until 5:00.
The Metuchen Preschool Summer Fun Camp is theme-based and will run for five weeks. Students can sign up for any or all weeks. See the Summer Fun Camp tab for additional information and registration forms.
Additional information:
-All classes are staffed and taught by two experienced teachers.
-All staff members undergo a background check and fingerprinting.
-The building features a full security system with monitored indoor and outdoor cameras. Doors are locked at all times during the school day.
-Parent involvement is welcome at The Metuchen Preschool. Parents are invited to come into school to read a book and celebrate with the class on their child’s birthday.
-We welcome the opportunity for our students to learn about various cultures and traditions. During the school year parents are encouraged to come into their child’s class to talk about holidays or celebrations that are important to their family.
-A daily snack is provided
-Halloween, Holiday, and Valentine’s Day school parties
-A Winter Concert and End of Year Celebration Concert
- 5% Discount for two or more students registered simultaneously
-Optional Pizza Fridays for lunch, including a fruit, vegetable, drink and dessert
-Vision screening for 3, 4 and 5-year-olds at no cost (parent permission required)
-Formal parent teacher conferences are in January and at other times by request. Written student assessments will be sent home in late fall and on the last day of school.
-Separate lunchroom and rest time room (rest time is for Pre-K3 students staying until 3:00 who are not yet 4-years old)
-Our classrooms, lunch room and gym are located on the main level of the building and accessible with a stroller
-The large parking lot adjacent to The Metuchen Preschool makes for easy drop-off and pick-up
-The school is cleaned through out the day and every evening
